Kortala Siva directorial Devara starring NTR Jr, Janhvi Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan has recorded a strong opening weekend in India, mainly due to its stellar opening on September 27. As per early estimates, Devara has earned Rs 42.00 crore. It went up to Rs 44.00 crore on Sunday, taking the 3-day total to a little less than Rs 175 crore. NTR Jr’s film earned Rs 87.50 crore on Friday, followed by Rs 41.50 crore on Saturday and Rs 43.00 crore on Sunday.
While the 3-day total is huge, the trend is similar as the surge on Sunday should have been much higher, especially in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. A business of between Rs 48.00 crore and Rs 50.00 crore on the third day would have put Devara in an even stronger position, but still, these are big numbers, which have come mainly because of raw star-power. NTR Jr will attract huge audience on the opening day.
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (Rs 111.50 crore) lead the business, followed by Telugu (Rs 33.80 crore), Karnataka (Rs 19.00 crore) and finally North India including Tamil Nadu and Kerala (Rs 7.25 crore). Among all the markets, the trend shown by the Hindi dubbed version is the best as the collections increased with every passing day over the weekend.
Eyes are now on the crucial Monday test, as if the film manages to show good hold on the fourth day, it will be all set to take advantage of the commencing Dussehra holiday period in the local market. 3 October.
