The Disney+ movie was released on July 12 and is a spinoff of the popular series. It follows new characters at Auradon Prep. Now, Uma (China Anne McClain) is in charge of the school and allows all children from any part of the kingdom to attend. One of them is Red (Kylie Cantrall), the daughter of the Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora).
Chaos ensures when Red’s mother rebels against Auradon for killing Cinderella (Brandy). Red then teams up with Cinderella’s daughter Chloe (Malia Baker) on a memorable time-traveling adventure. They meet their mothers as teenagers, resulting in a thrilling mission.
This is a defining moment
His primary goal during his experience with time is to prevent a pivotal event. This event caused Red’s mother to become evil, leading her to become known as the Queen of Hearts. In her younger years as Bridget (Ruby Rose Turner), she was embarrassed by Uliana (Dara Renee) at a school dance, which led her down a dark path.
Red and Chloe discover that Uliana plans to use a spell book stolen from Merlin’s office for her prank. To prevent this, Red convinces Chloe to steal the book first. They succeed and return home just before the Queen of Hearts’ coup.
Is the Queen of Hearts still evil?
Upon returning home, Red fears that her mother may still be evil. When they arrive at Auradon Prep again, almost everything is the same as before. This time, however, the Queen wears light pink clothes, reminiscent of her youth.
She spits out magical hearts while lovingly embracing her daughter, showing her deep love for Red. It becomes clear that what Red and Chloe did worked, as they prevented the events that would turn her into the Queen of Hearts. Cinderella is also alive and smiling when Chloe approaches her.
The consequences of time travel
In the end, Uma speaks in a voice that suggests there is more to come. She hints that you can’t mess with time without consequences.
During an interview with People, Kylie Cantrall spoke about the butterfly effect from her trip through time. According to Cantrall Red and Chloe “changed something when they went back.” Dara Renee reiterated this sentiment, noting that good intentions can still lead to unexpected changes.
“The raid probably did more harm than good,” Renee remarked.
Will there be a sequel to this?
None of the cast members have confirmed that a sequel will be made, but they have indicated that they would be open to coming back for it. Malia Baker wants to dive deeper into the land of Cinderella and King Charming and is eager to see how Chloe’s life has changed.
Baker is happy that none of the characters need a “knight in shining armor”, but if a sequel happens, she is open to Chloe being involved in a romantic relationship. According to Cantrall, there is also the possibility of Red finding love.
Cantrall wonders what will change between Red and her mother now. She said, “It will change their relationship a lot.” She also hopes to see the bond between Red and Chloe grow stronger.
Renee, who played the antagonist, joked about Uliana’s origin story. She imagines a scenario where the VKs (villain kids) are causing trouble in Wonderland, leading her to say, “Maybe Uliana is in charge (now).”
Descendants: The Rise of Red adds another thrilling installment to this much-loved series. Fans are eagerly waiting to see what happens next, as the ending hints at future adventures. It is the prospect of fresh thrills and in-depth exploration of their lives that excites everyone.
