One of the reasons Deadpool and Wolverine became one of the major and entertaining hits was because of the raw jokes it included. But not all the jokes made it to the final cut. Earlier the director, Shawn Levy had revealed a joke which was replaced with a Pinocchio joke without giving any further details about it.
Looks like we now know exactly what he was talking about. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film’s official script was released on Disney’s FYC website which included the original joke.
Deadpool jokingly says: Nonsense! We can’t even afford another X-Man? Disney is very cheap. I can barely breathe with all this Mickey Mouse crap in my throat.” But it appeared the line was later changed to, “F**k, now Disney is cheap? It’s like Pinocchio stuck his face in my ass and started lying like crazy.
Levy talked about this change in a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, but at the time he did not reveal what the actual joke was.
The director shared with the outlet that there was only one line in the entire venture that he was asked to change. He said he and the film’s lead star Ryan Reynolds have made a pact to go to their grave with that line.
He further stated that it was replaced with an equally dirty joke about Pinocchio shoving his face into Reynolds’ character’s face and starting to lie frantically.
Levy said, “I said, ‘Ryan, this is your replacement line,’ can we clear it up?’ That’s Ryan Reynolds for you, the ultimate daredevil.”
It is safe to say that the changed jokes did not harm the film as it was still a huge box-office success worldwide.
