Deadpool Samurai Season 2: Latest updates and everything we know so far

Must read

Deadpool’s popularity has surged, with Wolverine and Deadpool dominating the box office. Recently, Deadpool trolled fans with a surprise prank from Shueisha, revealing that Deadpool Samurai was making a comeback. The prank went on for over a month without fans’ knowledge, and Shueisha confirmed that a second season of Deadpool Samurai is on the way. The new manga, Secret Steward, went live in Jump Plus, but readers were surprised to find that it wasn’t what they expected.

Shueisha has announced the release of Secret Steward, a new romantic comedy series about a rich girl and her butler. The series went live on Jump Plus in Japan, but it didn’t go as well as expected. The protagonist was killed by Deadpool’s truck, and the butler took over the mantle of Secret Steward. Shueisha has confirmed that a second season of Deadpool Samurai is set to be released, which is a surprising reveal considering Deadpool’s ability to troll the Marvel Universe. This prank targeted manga readers, highlighting Deadpool’s love for surprises and his ability to troll the Marvel Universe.

Deadpool Samurai (PC: Viz Media)

Currently, there is no date for Deadpool Samurai’s return, but the Marvel manga is one of the best manga out there. The series went live in December 2020 under creators Sanshiro Kasama and Hikaru Uesugi and became a viral hit. Over the years, fans have been demanding more content and Deadpool’s recent addition to theaters has given the manga a perfect way to make a comeback.

The official synopsis of the manga describes it as, “Everyone’s favorite Merc with a Mouth has finally arrived in manga! As Deadpool visits Tokyo, he runs into some familiar faces. Before he knows it, he’s teaming up with new heroes, fighting gods, attending music festivals, and getting blown to pieces over and over again. It’s cool, isn’t it?”

Deadpool Samurai doesn’t push too many boundaries on the visual side. Despite being polished, most of the art can only be ranked as serviceable and standard manga art, with nothing to make it pop visually. And while the main characters are well designed, there are times when some of the antagonists look hastily drawn and somewhat sloppy.

As far as visuals go, Deadpool Samurai’s strength lies in its puns that poke fun at other manga properties like Demon Slayer and even Devilman. Even anime genres like Shonen aren’t safe from the Merc with a Mouth.

Deadpool Samurai (PC: Viz Media)

The story of Deadpool Samurai is about the Merc with a Mouth moving to Tokyo and joining a new squad of samurai. From here on out it’s the same violent, yet hilarious Deadpool action you’d expect from other comics with familiar faces, enemies, and more appearing. Deadpool Samurai ran for 15 chapters divided into two volumes. It’s unclear when Deadpool Samurai will be back, but ideally, we’ll get the same amount of story, if not more.

The plot, while formulaic, is fun and filled with the crazy antics that Deadpool fans know and love. Writer Sanshiro Kasama knows the world of Deadpool well and maintains the characters’ sense of humor. It’s also fun to see a manga that is so self-aware that the work itself is pure fan service for both Marvel and manga fans.
