Warning: major details about Deadpool and Wolverine are about to be revealed.
The gripping hype for Deadpool and Wolverine is coming to an end as the film has finally made its debut in theaters. It was no surprise that Marvel Studios’ biggest preparation for 2024 got off to a great start after being certified fresh on the Tomatometer following early reviews. The multidimensional madness that the film showcases is also the primary attraction that has raised the hype so far and has been constantly teasing us with great cameos. Here are the obvious and surprising cameos in the Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman-led film.
X-23
The reveal of Dafne Keen as Laura aka X-23 was a huge disappointment among fans as her cameo was teased in the final trailer of the film just a week before the film’s release. Fans will surely love the reveal of Keen’s appearance on the big screen as the actor had kept this big secret hidden for a very long time.
However, it wasn’t irreversible damage as Keene’s character is quite prominent compared to what we were told in the final trailer. Certainly, the version of Laura in the film is similar to Logan, who witnessed his biological father Logan’s tragic sacrifice. In Deadpool and Wolverine, Keene’s Laura is one of the catalysts that drives the narrative forward as she was the one to save the title heroes from the psychic attacks of Cassandra Nova, bringing Juggernaut’s helmet after he beheaded her.
Electra
Jennifer Garner’s return as Elektra wasn’t too shocking for fans after a report from The Hollywood Reporter in July 2023 revealed her involvement in the film. However, Marvel Studios has remained tight-lipped about the same till now. The actor previously appeared as Elektra in 2003’s Daredevil and 2005’s Elektra.
Garner’s Elektra costume in Deadpool and Wolverine appears dark red, a mix of the character from her previous two films with traces of comic book tint. The character is one of the last surviving members of the resistance heroes living in the Void.
blade
The Blade reboot is still in development, but Wesley Snipes’ return as the iconic vampire hunter was a surprise to many. He returned to the role after 20 years blade Trinity, In his cameo, Snipes took a humorous dig at Marvel Studios’ continued delays in their reboot of the fan-favorite franchise.
Reynolds also uttered the line, “There’s only one blade,” which shows that Snipes’ portrayal of the iconic character is evergreen.
first step
Channing Tatum finally got the chance to play Gambit in Deadpool and Wolverine, completing the role he’s been working on for years. Tatum was attached to Gambit in 2014 and even appeared alongside other Marvel stars at San Diego Comic-Con 2015, but the project was cancelled after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox in 2019.
Tatum’s Gambit is integral to the plot and includes meta-jokes about the failed Gambit film. His character humorously laments his unfulfilled potential, with Deadpool mocking his exaggerated Cajun accent, creating a standout moment for fans.
Big Ship
The Hulk is one of Marvel’s most popular characters, with multiple versions of him appearing in media including films, television shows, and comics. The Hulk that appears in Deadpool and Wolverine, however, does not currently exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, played by Mark Ruffalo.
In the film, directed by Shawn Levy, Deadpool is trying to find a new Wolverine to anchor his universe, as the previous Wolverine died in Logan. He encounters a Wolverine in the classic orange and brown costume in the comics, who is about to face the Hulk. The scene is reminiscent of Wolverine’s first appearance in The Incredible Hulk #181 and recreates the famous cover of Incredible Hulk #340, which shows the Hulk’s reflection in Wolverine’s claws.
Lady Deadpool
If there’s one character that has generated the most buzz and discussion among fans, it’s Lady Deadpool. After being teased multiple times, fans were divided on who would play the character, Reynolds’ wife Blake Lively or Taylor Swift, who was rumored to be linked with Lady Deadpool.
The answer has finally been revealed, it’s not Swift. It’s Lively who gets into a fight with Reynolds’ Deadpool in the movie.
Kidpool
Kidpool, the child version of Deadpool, is played by Walker Scobell, known for The Adam Project and Percy Jackson & the Olympians. Along with a younger Deadpool, Kidpool is part of the Deadpool Corp. Although he is not a Young Avenger in the comics, his inclusion hints at possible future stories. Kidpool’s inclusion in the Avengers before Deadpool presents several comedic opportunities for Marvel Studios.
Headpool
A standout in Deadpool Corp is Headpool, a floating Deadpool head adapted from Marvel Zombies. Contrary to early rumors that he would be the severed head of Weapon XI from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, this version is a zombified head with a Southern accent, voiced by Nathan Fillion. This is Fillion’s latest MCU role, following his appearances as the blue alien prisoner in Guardians of the Galaxy and Master Karza in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. He will next appear as Guy Gardner in James Gunn’s Superman.
The cameos of Deadpool and Wolverine made the film even more entertaining. Also, it was a treat for fans to relive the memories of seeing their favorite characters in the MCU. Deadpool and Wolverine is now showing in theaters.
human Torch
Chris Evans who is best known for playing Captain America in the MCU is back to play another character he played in his Fantastic Four films. For nine years Evans was iconic as Captain America, a role that catapulted him to global stardom. However, before playing Captain America, Evans was the Human Torch who played Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007). Evans’ return to the MCU is special as he is back under the Marvel Studios banner five years after Avengers: Endgame.
