De De Pyaar De 2 review: The last 20 minutes of Ajay Devgan, Rakul and Madhavan’s film turn this romantic comedy into a laugh riot.

plot

De De Pyaar De 2, the sequel to the 2019 hit, picks up where the first film left off. Ajay Devgan returns as Ashish Mehra, who is now ready to take the next big step with his much younger girlfriend Ayesha Khurana (Rakul Preet Singh). challenge? R. Madhavan (Rajji Khurana) and Gautami Kapoor (Anju Khurana) convince their parents to accept their 24-year age difference.

Khurana proudly calls himself ‘educated’, ‘progressive’ and ‘modern’, but when it comes to his daughter’s wedding, the old school fear and the dreaded ‘log kya kahenge’ (what will society say?) come to the fore. What unfolds is a situational comedy about love, family and societal expectations, wrapped in Luv Ranjan’s signature wit.

what works

For starters, De De Pyaar De 2 knows exactly what it wants to be, a clean, family entertainer that doesn’t stray from its genre. Director Anshul Sharma keeps the humor light and relevant and that’s what makes it successful.

However, the real hero of the film is its dialogues. Luv Ranjan and Tarun Jain deliver sharp, playful lines that land perfectly on screen. The camaraderie between Ajay Devgan and Javed Jaffrey (Ronak) is amazing; Their scenes together are pure gold.

The film looks gorgeous, with spectacular locations, stylish costumes and stunning cinematography adding to the experience. Ajay and R. Madhavan’s onscreen clash brings the right mix of tension and humor, making their tug-of-war easily the highlight of the film.

what is not

If only the music matched the energy of the film. Apart from Sagar Bhatia’s Aakhri Salaam, the rest of the album doesn’t stay with you. Karan Aujla and Jaani’s 3 Shob is forgettable, and Yo Yo Honey Singh’s Jhoom Sharabi remix doesn’t hit the right note.

The pace slows down a bit in the second half, but it soon picks up and builds to a fun, satisfying climax.

Ajay Devgan fits seamlessly into the role of a mature, 52-year-old lover who balances charm with restraint. Rakul Preet Singh beautifully portrays the emotional pull between being a dutiful daughter and a devoted girlfriend.

R. Madhavan, with his effortless screen presence, commands attention in every frame, especially in a scene where his conscience is drawn to him. Gautami Kapoor fits perfectly in the role of Mrs. Khurana.

Jaaved Jaaferi is a true show-stealer, his impeccable timing, effortless humor and stunning dance performances leave the house spellbound. Meezaan Jaffrey (Sameer Khurrana) plays his character with ease and his onscreen ‘Jugalbandi’ with father Javed adds warmth to the film.
