De De Pyaar De is set to raise Rs 2 crore. Earning Rs 8 crore on the first day at the Indian box office. Sure, it’s a bad first day, but all things considered, it’s not so bad.
Non-action films have found it difficult to make initial recordings after the pandemic, unless there is hit music or star value. Ajay Devgan is a big star but he doesn’t have any big initial charm and of course, the hit music was missing here. Recently the best first day figures for a film in this region is Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar, which collected Rs. 15 crores, with the support of some holidays, a young star suitable for the genre and hit music. In this respect, this figure of the first day does not seem that bad.
The main disappointment stems from the fact that Day One will exactly match the performance of the original film in 2019, which isn’t ideal. One can expect the sequel to be an increase, at least in terms of the beginning, as it has the usual inflation and additional recognition from the appreciation of the first film. Although even there, one has to make excuses for the fact that it was a better time in general at the box office.
Business was light throughout the day, although the later shows saw somewhat better activity than some of the other films opening in this range. Whether this stir is due to the boom in business or just the presence of audience for the film in the evening show, it will be known how its performance will be tomorrow. Still, this could be a positive for the film as it needs to show big gains on Saturday and Sunday, and the generally good momentum on Friday nights carries over to Saturday and Sunday as well.
Interestingly, De De Pyaar De 2 has taken a better start overseas, with first day earnings of US$450K. It’s not much, but it’s not a bad figure for an Ajay Devgan film, especially considering it had a low opening in India.
