In the June 11 episode of the Days of Lives, the city gathered to say goodbye to John Black, who loved those who loved him at a funeral filled with memories, feelings and final tributes.
Eric led the funeral service, reflecting his relationship with John, which remained a guiding appearance even after the truth of Eric’s parentage. He shared that Sami could not be present, but sent a heartfelt letter, thanked John for giving a beautiful childhood. Sami wrote, “He did not really ruin my life. He made it infinitely better.”
Carrie then shared her memories of growing up in a mixed family with John and Marlena. She talked about her 1999 marriage, where each child brought a flower to symbolize unity, and she rebuilt that moment. Paul placed a rose on behalf of Sami, while Belle placed Daisy, Brady laid a sunflower, Eric Snapdragon brought, and Carrie offered Orchids. Marlena quietly reflected on that memory as each flower was placed down.
Brady stepped with a mixture of humor and spirit, remembering John’s unique ‘eyebrows’ and how he communicated so much. He also honored John’s late father, Timothy Robichoko, saying that John finally gave peace to peace by knowing his roots. Brady called John the World’s eldest father and stopped his speech.
Asha and Bo arrive at the funeral to speak
As Eric began to lead the group in prayer, Hope and Bo arrived, apologizing for late entry. Bo insisted on appearing to honor the man whom he considered a brother. He recalled his rocky start but said that John always led his heart and compassion. Bo promised to take John’s memory with him.
Marlena, who did not plan to speak, read a small poem about the love season and reflected together in about 40 years. He hoped that love would take him through disadvantages, “Good night, my love.”
After service, Eric invited everyone to celebrate John’s life in Brady Pub. Kayla hugged Bo, but reminded him that he should not leave the hospital. Bo said that he will not leave a chance to honor someone who feels like a brother.
Holding John’s photo, Asha said that she would miss everything about her. The channel comforted Johnny, who had worried his grandfather. Kate and Belle shared calm goodbye, and Brady laid two Gondola plates from John and Isabella’s past.
Marlena paid attention to the flowers and recalled John bringing her lilac to work. Kayla told him that the gold coin had disappeared, but Marlena accepted it, saying that it was a symbol of hope, and this hope was now gone.
