Dhanush and director Rajkumar Periyasamy are set to collaborate for the first time on a film tentatively titled D55. As official updates keep coming in, the makers have announced that Mammootty has joined the cast.
Mammootty has officially joined Dhanush starrer D55
The makers of D55 shared some pictures of Mammootty and director Rajkumar Periyasamy on their social media handles. Sharing the update, the team wrote, “When Big M chooses a story, it becomes history. So excited to welcome megastar Mammootty to D55! We are honored! Thank you Mammootty sir.”
Interestingly, this marks Mamukka’s return to Tamil cinema after a gap of six years following the release of Peranabu.

Earlier, the makers had announced that the film will star actresses Sreeleela and Sai Pallavi in the co-lead roles. Interestingly, this is the second time Sai Pallavi has appeared with Dhanush after their film Maari 2.
Initially, the film was announced with the support of another production house. However, the previous producer reportedly backed out and transferred all the rights to Dhanush’s home production banner.
Recently, the makers of D55 confirmed that the film will have songs and background music composed by Sai Abhyankar. Reportedly, the puja ceremony for the film is expected to take place soon.
Dhanush and Mammootty’s workfront
Dhanush will next be seen in the action thriller Kara. Directed by Vignesh Raja of Por Thozhil fame, the film is the story of a man who is stuck between virtue and sin after several incidents in his life. As he faces the consequences of his actions, he must face many challenges and protect his family at all costs.
Featuring Mamita Baiju as the female co-lead, the film also stars Karunas, Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu and many others in lead roles. It is expected that this film will be released in summer this year.
Meanwhile, Mammootty will next be seen in the lead role in the film Patriot. Directed by Mahesh Narayanan, the espionage action drama stars Mohanlal in a pivotal role, along with Fahadh Faasil, Kunchacko Boban, Nayanthara, Rajiv Menon, Revathi, Darshan Rajendran and others in lead roles. The film is scheduled to release on April 23, 2026.
Additionally, Mammootty is currently filming Padayatra, directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan.
