The trailer of the Netflix cyber-thriller, starring Ananya Panday in the lead role, was released on Wednesday, September 25. It gives an insight into Ananya’s character Naila, who gives control of her life and happiness to artificial intelligence (AI). Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, the thriller also stars Vihaan Samat, who was recently paired with Ananya in the Prime Video series Call Me Bae.

The nearly two-minute trailer begins with Ananya’s Nela logging onto ctrlapp.in and giving control of her life to an AI-generated person called Alan. She lets him access her camera and microphone. Meanwhile, we get a glimpse of Nela’s happy relationship with Joe (Vihaan), which soon turns sour as Vihaan cheats on Nela.

To deal with the pain of her breakup, Nela takes the help of an app and asks it to “delete” her ex. Soon, she discovers that Joe has disappeared. Whether this is the work of AI will be known once the film is released on Netflix.

Talking about the film, Ananya said in a statement, “CTRL explores how we walk the fine line between our online presence and who we are in real life.” Talking about her character, the actress said, “My character Naila is just like any one of us. She is stuck in a world dominated by technology and social media.”

Director Vikramaditya Motwane called CTRL a “unique” journey and said, “It’s what we call the Screen Life format, telling a story in an almost voyeuristic way using technology that we literally use every day. Our goal is to create this incredible immersive experience, and Netflix as a platform has really helped us reach our global audience.”

The trailer of CTRL was liked by most viewers. However, some people called it the Indian version of Black Mirror. One comment on the trailer read, “Black Mirror India.”

After Kho Gaye Hum Kahan, this is another film of Ananya Panday, which will highlight the ill effects of social media.
