Spike in Kovid -19 cases in Asia
Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and even China have reported an increase in Kovid -19 cases in the last few weeks due to various factors.
According to the Health Ministry of Singapore, an estimated number of Covid-19 cases in the week of April 27 to May 3, 2025 increased to 14,200 cases compared to 11,100 cases in the previous week.
In the same period, the average daily Covid-19 had increased from 102 to 133 from hospitalization, but the average daily intensive care unit (ICU) cases decreased in three to two cases.

Similarly, in Hong Kong, Covid-19 cases increased from 6.21% to 13.66% in only four weeks (April 6 to 12 April).
“After the resume of the general situation, Hong Kong experienced the active period of Kovid -19 every six to nine months,” the controller of the Center for Health Protection, Dr. Edwin Tsui said.

In Thailand, the XEC variant, a stress of OMICron, has become a sharp in cases. This may be responsible for the Songkran holiday period (13 April to 15 April), during which the number of cases increased continuously.
What is the cause of spike?
According to Singapore health officials, the increase in cases is attributed to the population reduced immunity and the spread of new variants, LF.7 and NB.1.8, descendants of JN.1 variants who emerged in 2024.
This means that safety from previous infections or vaccinations is gradually decreasing over time.
Due to this, the virus can spread more easily, especially between high -risk groups above 65. In addition, seasonal factors, social functions have increased, and travel can also contribute to boom.
“Currently, LF.7 and NB.1.8 (both descendants of JN.1 variants) are the main Kovid -19 variants to be operated in Singapore, along with more than two -thirds of local accounting cases. JN.1 is also a version used in the conversion of the current Kovid -19 vaccine,” Read the health reports of the present Kovid -19 vaccine, “Singapore’s health reports.
However, there is no official confirmation of spreading JN.1 in India.
Health officials in Hong Kong stated that Covid-19 has developed as a spatial disease with a “periodic pattern”.

“Considering local and global epidemiological data in recent years, CHP thinks that Kovid -19 has evolved into a spatial disease with a periodic pattern. According to CHP analysis, the active period is associated with changes in major circulating circulatory changes in Hong Kong and a decline in Herd Immunities.”
Hong Kong also referred to “fall flock immunity”.
In Singapore, many people are being treated for Kovid symptoms, there was no booster shot in a year. A similar trend can also occur in other countries.
