Superstar Chiyaan Vikram’s last release, Thangalan, was a massive success at the box office. And now, months after its release, the buzz around Thangaalan’s OTT release has intensified, with the film’s producer recently giving a confirmed nod for the same.
Contrary to the ongoing speculations which suggested poor financial condition was the reason behind the delayed OTT release of Thangaalan, producer Gnanavel Raja dismissed all such rumors and clarified while confirming when the film will release on Netflix. That it is scheduled for release this Diwali. Year.
He said, “They (Netflix) have scheduled the release for Diwali. They wanted Thangaalan to be released on a festival as it is a big film. However, our favorite YouTubers are claiming that there are some issues with Thangalan. They have a habit of claiming there is a problem when in reality there is none.”
This reaction has definitely created a wave of excitement among the actor’s fans. For those who care, after its theatrical release on August 15, 2024, Thanglaan ended up earning a whopping Rs. 50,000 worldwide. 72 crores.
Although some have rated it as very underrated compared to Vikram’s other successful films, the critical response the project received is what makes it so significant. The film has been praised for its storytelling, performances, and attention to historical detail.
Earlier, during a candid interview with Pinkvilla, director Pa Ranjith had left the audience curious by revealing his plans to make a sequel to Thangaalan. He explained that audiences were curious about what happened to the main character after the film ended, stressing the need for a sequel to answer those questions.
He shared, “After Thangalan got the gold, what happened after that? And whether the colonial system kept them happy or not, how their lives actually changed or did not change – this question is very important. So yes, I want to jump into it again.
For those unaware, Thangaalan is financed under the Studio Green banner and features an impressive star cast, which includes Parvathy Thiruvothu, Malavika Mohanan, Pasupathi, Hari Krishnan, Daniel Caltagirone and many others.
