Mani Ratnam is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated directors. With his heartwarming stories that have become favourites for all generations, the director has always impressed his followers. Meanwhile, Mani Ratnam’s Raavanan can be called one of the most experimental films of this fine director, which completes 14 years of its release on June 18, 2024.
Now to make the occasion even more special and joyous, Chiyaan Vikram has shared a clip from the movie to mark its significance.
Chiyaan Vikram’s tribute to Ravana
On the evening of June 18, Chiyaan shared a clip from his 2010 film Raavanan on his Instagram story section and wrote, “14 years of Raavanan.” The clip showed some sequences from the film featuring Chiyaan himself, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Prithviraj Sukumaran. Meanwhile, for some unknown reasons, Chiyaan’s story is not visible right now.
For those who don’t know, Mani Ratnam’s film Raavanan was re-released in select theatres on April 17 and received immense love and affection from movie lovers. A large section of movie lovers flocked to the theatres to witness the unmatched chemistry of Veera and Ragini along with the beauty of Mani Ratnam’s excellent filmmaking.

More about Ravanan
The main character of the story is Veera, a jungle bandit, who kidnaps Dev’s wife Ragini, a police officer, to take revenge. Veera sends Ragini to a cliff to kill her, but, she chooses to jump into the river below to give up her life. Her courage amazes Veera, who rescues her. After that, Veera develops feelings for Ragini, which sets off a series of events.
The film stars Aishwarya Rai, Karthik, Prabhu Ganesan, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Chiyaan Vikram and Priyamani in lead roles. With actor Abhishek Bachchan reprising the role of Vikram, Vikram in the villainous role and Aishwarya reprising her original role, the film was also remade in Hindi as Raavan.
The cult classic was directed by music composer A.R. Rahman and financed by Mani Ratnam and his brother G. Srinivasan under the banner of Madras Talkies.
