On the November 16 episode of Saturday Night Live, Charli XCX juggled two jobs into one. She appeared as both a musical guest and host. Despite playing double duty, the singer did not miss his mark and delivered hilarious sketches and sensational musical renditions.
One of them was a modified version of Ariana Grande’s viral ‘Domingo’ sketch, in which the pop star sang an off-tune parody of Sabrina Carpenter’s song Espresso alongside SNL stars Heidi Gardner, Ego Nwodim and Sarah Sherman. In the original sketch, Bridesmaid Speech, Kelsey’s (Chloe Fineman) bridesmaids, aka the “Kel-Squad”, performed a song describing their graduation holiday, which turned out to be a little more candid.
The song tells the story of how Kelsey meets a boy named Domingo and has an affair with him in front of the groom Matthew, played by Andrew Dismukes. In a revised version of the sketch, Fineman and Dismukes return as a couple, but now Fineman is pregnant, and the subject is a baby shower.
In the skit titled Babymoon, the OG Kel-Squad, excluding Grande, was joined by Charli to perform a song for “The MILF of the Hour” Kelsey. In a parody version of Chappelle Rhone’s track Hot to Go, the girl squad describes their babymoon vacation in Miami while revealing Kelsey’s text exchange with Domingo.
“We get facials at the spa, but Kelsey doesn’t talk at all,” After this, “we say, ‘Kelsey, turn off your phone,’ because we know who she’s texting! We know “Who’s she sending the message to?” he sings, hinting that he may be the father of the child. The drama reached its peak when Domingo (Marcelo Hernandez) himself appeared in song.
As far as musical numbers go, the Girls, So Confusing singer opted to perform her song 360, which features the lyrics, “I’m everywhere/I’m so Julia”, referencing Julia Fox. Well, it was the latter who introduced Charlie before his performance. She also performed her song Sympathy Is a Knife, which ironically has a connection to Grande as she appeared on the remix version of the track.
