In another case of cyber fraud, a 27 -year -old woman from Chandigarh caused a loss of Rs 5.69 lakh. The victim was lured into the task scam of the house with a work, where he was promised easy to like Instagram video. The victim fell victim to online fraudsters after allegedly contacted on WhatsApp, a resident of Rajiv Colony in Sector 17.

The scam began on March 25, when the victim received a message from a person on WhatsApp, who recognizes himself as Sneha Verma, reports the Times of India. Verma introduced himself as an employee of a company, who offers home opportunities from home to earn quick cash. She then offered an opportunity to the victim, claiming that she could earn Rs 4,000 to Rs 8,000 per day by completing small online tasks. These tasks included only liked the video on Instagram.

Inspired in an easy way to earn extra money, agreed to participate in the afflicted tasks. After her agreement, Scammer sent a video link to like her and directed her to join a telegram group for further tasks. The victim also completed some tasks, and for him, he was shown fake income in his account, which created his trust. The scammers then assured her that she could earn even more by investing money in her plan.

Seeing the initial profit and the promise of high returns, the victim agreed and transferred Rs 1.5 lakh to several bank accounts provided by the online scammer. Over time, the fraudsters manipulated him to deposit a large amount, eventually dropped him out of Rs 5.69 lakh. To legalize the scam, the criminals also displayed fake “profits” on a fraudulent app, believing that she was earning a good profit.

It was only when the victim tried to withdraw his alleged earnings that the scammers had introduced a new position – his “score” was required to reach 100 points, before he could use money. He demanded an additional Rs 5 lakh for “completing the work”, increasing his doubt. Realizing that he was cheated, he then shared his ordinance with his family and approached the Cybercrime Police Station in Chandigarh.

According to reports, the case is under investigation, and preliminary findings suggest that the scam operates through a network of fake profiles and shell accounts, making it difficult to detect criminals.

Stay home from fake work

This case is still another example of how scammers are cheating people by exploiting their greed and taking them out of money. Vigilance is necessary when engaged in schemes to earn money online. Here are some safety tips:

– First and foremost, there is doubt about any unwanted messages that promise easy money. These offers are very good to be true, and even legitimate investment opportunities come with risks.

– Most importantly, bank details, OTPs, or passwords with strangers, no matter how confident they are.

– If the job opportunity appears seductive and looks valid, then find online for reviews or complaints about the plan.

– Stick on verified job portals or company websites to earn opportunities instead of random WhatsApp or Telegram Off.
