The Chaitra Navratri festival has started in full swing. This festival celebrates the nine avatars of Goddess Durga and is considered one of the biggest festivals in India. During this nine-day long period, many devotees observe rituals fasting and avoid consuming many foods, including whole grains, pulses, meat and beans. But this does not mean that you cannot celebrate the festival without indulging in water -by -water dishes. Thankfully, there are some foods that can consume while fasting and prepare delicious dishes with it. One such food item is humble alu or potato.

Elu is used extensively to make dishes during the fasting season of Navratri. It is Elu Pakora, Elu Chaat or Elu Tikki, we can’t just get enough for it. But do you know that ELU can be used to make Kadhi too? If you are someone who enjoys having a bowl of the kadhi and misses it while fasting, then you will love this allu’s kadhi completely. There is no gram flour in this recipe and instead it uses lionera. It is thick, creamy and as good as the regular story. The best thing is that Kadhi also has delicious pakodus. Alu Kadhi Recipe: How to make Aloo Kadhi

To start, add mashed potatoes, red chili powder, lione and salt to a bowl. Mix well to mix everything together. Put 1/4 of the mixture aside and make small cooks out of it. In the remaining mixture, add yogurt to make a smooth paste. (You can also add some water at this level).

Now, heat some oil in a pan and add whole red chili, curry leaves and cumin. Once they start bursting, add chopped ginger and step well. Next, add curd mix, coriander powder and salt.

Allow it to boil on low flame until Kadhi becomes thick in stability, sometimes stirring. Add prepared Pakorus and cook for a few more minutes. Once done once, transfer to a serving bowl and garnish with fresh coriander leaves. Alu Katha is ready!
