Cannes ban the Film Festival red carpet on nudity and oversized outfits
The Cannes Film Festival updated the red carpet dress code, banning nudity and oversized outfits. The aim of the new rules is to increase safety and decoration, to balance glamor with comfort and legal compliance in high-profile events.

The Cannes Film Festival has formally announced new guidelines, which restrict nudity and are more on big clothes on their red carpets. The decision follows a topless protector in 2022 and a series of headline-hatching events including the sheer dress of Bianka sensor in Gramis earlier this year.
In a statement, the festival stated that although the dress code has always existed, they are now strictly implemented according to both the standards of the festival and the French law.
The official statement said, “The purpose is not to control fashion in general, but to avoid total nudity and extremely bulbous clothes in red carpet events.” The organizers reported that such organizations may interfere with the experience of other patron and the experience of safety concerns.
As mentioned by the variety, the revised charter empowers the festival to enter the bar to those whose costumes can obstruct the movement or complicate the seating system. While not specifically mentioned, the costumes with long trains – such as a wide pink dress of Greta Gervig – may be affected, especially on the tight stages of the Palis des festives.
Red carpet dress code rules in the ear have been a source of dispute for a long time. The festival faced criticism for the need for “elegant” shoes at night screening – an informal rule that many people saw as heels for women.
While the ear is committed to its tradition of sophistication and reputation, organizers are expected to balance fashion freedom with decoration and functionality.
