Can ChatGPT check your Bumble date’s actual height?

Recently, social media has been flooded with posts from women using ChatGPT to check if their matches on dating apps like Hinge, Bumble or Tinder are lying about their height.

Fraud, exaggeration, and lying have become synonymous with dating apps these days. Before we swipe right, our minds are flooded with thoughts, and one of them is definitely this: can I really trust what they have written in their bio, or is it too good to be true?

One thing many men lie about is their height, since pop culture and society often associate height with attractiveness.

Recent viral hits such as “I’m looking for a man in finance, 6’5, blue eyes” have influenced many women and, perhaps, put pressure on men to exaggerate the truth about their height in dating app bios. As a result, it’s becoming increasingly difficult for people to trust whether a man is truly being honest about his height.

However, according to social media, ChatGPT could be the solution to this problem.

ChatGPT to know altitude? Yes.

ChatGPT is everywhere, and there’s no denying that. However, today it’s being used for a variety of reasons you wouldn’t expect from an AI. Some people flirt with AI, while others use it to figure out if the people they’re flirting with in real life are lying – especially about their height.

Recently, social media has been flooded with posts about women using ChatGPT to find out if their matches on dating apps like Hinge, Bumble or Tinder are lying about their height. This can be done by simply uploading photos into the AI and asking it to estimate their height.

In a viral reel on Instagram, a woman shares her experience in a podcast about how she matched with a guy whose bio claimed he was 6’2. After some analysis with ChatGPT, she found that he was actually 5’7, and after some questioning by the podcast host he eventually confessed to being 5’8.

Other similar videos also show women trying to guess the height of their partners or celebrities, and claiming that the AI estimates it accurately.

Can ChatGPT really determine someone’s true height? We tried.

For this experiment, we first started with famous Indian celebrities to test the accuracy of ChatGPT, as their height is publicly known and verified. However, the experiment soon appeared to fail, as ChatGPT was able to tell us the real height of Bollywood celebrities through the information available online rather than analyzing the photo.

For example, when it couldn’t determine Shah Rukh Khan’s height from his photos, GPT responded, “I can’t determine someone’s height just from a photo. However, if you are talking about Shah Rukh Khan, he is said to be around 5 feet 8 inches tall.”

So, we decided to test it using people we know and their actual height. The first person we contacted was a colleague, a fellow journalist, who is 5 feet tall. We uploaded some photos of him, and ChatGPT estimated his height to be 5 feet 4 inches. But let us tell you that estimating 5’4″ was not a simple process at all.

First, we uploaded some photos, and the AI wasn’t able to detect the height easily. Take a look at our discussion:

Ground Level

There’s no denying that GPT and other AIs are capable of handling almost anything, but catching a human lying—especially when it comes to their height—seems to be where the line is drawn. At least for now!
