Ananya Panday, who made her acting debut in 2019 with Karan Johar’s directorial venture Student of the Year 2 alongside Tiger Shroff and Tara Sutaria, has appeared in a handful of films in her five-year career and was last seen in the lead role in 2023’s Kho Gaye Hum Kahan. The actress recently spoke about not feeling okay with certain ‘red flag’ elements in the script of Liger and how they were changed by the makers. Ananya felt happy to express her opinion.
During a new conversation with Sucharita Tyagi, Ananya Panday revealed how as a Gen-Z, the actress spotted “red flags” while reading the script of Vijay Deverakonda-starrer Liger. Discussing her work ethic, Ananya said that as a woman, it is her responsibility to address the elements.
Ananya recalled, “In Liger, there were a lot of things in that script where I used to think, ‘Listen I am not comfortable saying this. As a woman, this is not right’.” The actress revealed that the makers made changes to the script and she is happy about it. She added, “They actually made those changes and I am really happy that I expressed my opinion at that time.”
Ananya further added that she believes it is her responsibility as a woman to address inappropriate elements in scripts and raise her voice against them. The Liger actress also spoke about standing up for the right thing as a “young and Gen-Z” adult and emphasised how important it is to discuss women’s safety in our country.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview with India Today, Ananya Panday was asked if she has any defense mechanism to deal with criticism from the audience. The actress denied it saying that it is a “phase” given the kind of work she is doing.
Elaborating on this, the Kho Gaye Hum Kahan actress shared that she is taking “risks” in her career. Ananya mentioned that the actress’ self-worth depends on how people view or criticise her. However, the Call Me Bae star also expressed that she does not take criticism of her personal life seriously.
Ananya Panday made her Telugu debut with Liger in 2022. The film stars Vijay Deverakonda in dual roles of father and son – Sher Tiger Balram Agarwal and Shashwat Agarwal aka Liger, a mixed martial arts fighter. Liger has a stuttering problem in the film. Ananya was cast as his girlfriend Tanya.
The 2022 sports drama also starred Ramya Krishna, Ronit Roy, Chunky Pandey and Makrand Deshpande in pivotal roles. This was Vijay’s Bollywood entry. Legendary boxer Mike Tyson played an extended cameo role in the film.
