Call Me Bae: Ananya Panday admits her show is a ‘mix of Schitt’s Creek, Clueless, Aisha, Nancy Drew’; deets

Ananya Panday launched the trailer of her upcoming web show, Call Me Bae, a few hours ago. During the special event, the actress admitted that her show is inspired by several female-led comedy films, including Alicia Silverstone’s Clueless and Sonam Kapoor’s Aisha. The actress also spoke in detail about her experience of working on a long-format series.

Today, on August 20, sometime ago, Ananya Panday launched the trailer of her debut OTT series, Call Me Bae, in Mumbai. In the upcoming show, she will be seen playing the lead role of Bae aka Bela Choudhary, who is born into an affluent family. When she is downgraded to the middle class, things take an unexpected turn.

Talking about her comedy-drama show, the actress revealed that it’s a mix of “chick-flick kind of movies” that she loved as a child. “And then obviously there was Poo, who was iconic. I literally dressed up as Poo two years ago… I have all her quotes on my mirror and everything, so she’s really left a mark on me. It’s a mix of Schitt’s Creek, Clueless, Aisha, Nancy Drew…,” she mentioned.

Ananya said that we don’t get to see these “light, young adult, happy and fun” shows. The actress said that despite her character having all these qualities, her character is “completely her own personality.” Further, the actress called her role in the show a fun but challenging role in her career.

She clarified that this is the first time she is doing a long format series. Comparing it with films, she said that there are certain scenes in a film that deprive her of creating a backstory. However, long format shows give her the opportunity to do so.

He also credited the show’s team and crew for the dialogues that were written that way. He admitted that he had a lot of fun working on it.

Call Me Bae stars Vir Das, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, Muskaan Jaffrey and more. Backed by Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta and Somen Mishra under the banner of Dharmatic Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the show is scheduled to stream on Amazon Prime Video on September 6, 2024.
