According to a report in ARY News, the District and Sessions Court has granted interim bail to Bushra Bibi, wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, till January 13 in cases related to the November 26 protests.
Duty judge Shabir Bhatti presided over the hearing of their interim bail pleas. Bushra Bibi appeared in the court with her legal team to seek interim bail in four cases registered at Tarnol police station and three cases registered at Ramna police station.
The court granted his bail on depositing a surety bond of Rs. 50,000 for each case.
Earlier on December 21, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Rawalpindi had granted him interim bail till January 13 in 32 cases, his lawyer said.
According to reports, Bushra Bibi appeared before the ATC along with her lawyers and sought bail in a total of 32 cases, including 23 related to the May 9 violence. He has now got interim bail in the cases registered in Rawalpindi, Attock and Chakwal.
Her lawyer, Faisal Malik, argued that the cases filed against Bushra Bibi are “politically motivated and aimed at vengeance.” Speaking to the media, Faisal Malik said that the former first lady surrendered herself before the ATC, ARY News reported, adding that she was booked in 23 cases in Rawalpindi alone.
PTI had started protests on November 24 demanding the release of Imran Khan. During the protests, the PTI caravan moved from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to Islamabad and the protesters reached D-Chowk by 26 November, where security personnel took late-night action to disperse people and end the protests.
Meanwhile, PTI Information Secretary Sheikh Waqas Akram condemned the £190 million corruption case against party founder Imran Khan and his wife, calling it the “worst example of political persecution”.
Addressing a press conference in Peshawar on 23 November, Akram warned that people would not tolerate any more injustice against Imran Khan.
