Former Pussycat Doll and X Factor judge turned Broadway performer Nicole Scherzinger reacted to the recent US election results and the backlash she faced from haters. Scherzinger surprisingly became involved in the New York theater community and became one of the best-reviewed Broadway performances of the season. Actress considered a Tony Award contender for her role in Sunset Blvd. Responded favorably to a post celebrating Donald Trump’s victory.
The Instagram post was shared by Russell Brand who is a comedian, convert to Christianity and facing sexual assault allegations. After the election results were announced, he posted a photo of himself wearing a red Make America Great Again baseball cap with the words Make Jesus First Again.
In her since-deleted comment below the post, Scherzinger wrote, “Where do I get this hat!!!?” Although his comment made no direct reference to MAGA or Trump, it has been interpreted as a tactic of support. In 2008, he supported the candidacy of Barack Obama and supported the LGBTQIA+ community. That’s why his support for Trump felt like a betrayal.
A user named TheBroadwaySlasher on X shared a tweet analyzing Scherzinger’s intentions behind these political moves or statements. The user claimed that her career “has been kept alive and afloat almost exclusively through the pockets of her LGBTQIA+ fans for the last 15 years, when no one else wanted to see or hear from her… This is a betrayal.”
Another user wrote, “Nicole Scherzinger actually thought it was a good idea to come out as a Trump supporter? When she’s literally on the verge of a Tony nomination. The user noted that the LGBTQIA+ community is prominently present in the Broadway area, so her move was hypocritical. The user said, “After a flop attempt at a solo career, she finally found her niche and ruined it.”
