Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, better known as Brangelina, separated several years ago, but they still face several major hurdles to finalize their divorce. The former couple chose the perfect time to visit the Venice Film Festival to present their respective projects and managed to avoid crossing each other on the red carpet.
Jolie attended the festival for the premiere of Maria, her biopic about opera singer Maria Callas. It was greeted with an 8-minute standing ovation, which brought the actress to tears. Three days later, Pitt arrived with his old friend and co-star George Clooney to support his new thriller Wolves, while Jolie had already left to attend the Telluride Film Festival. The Fight Club actor still had luck with girlfriend of two years Ines de Ramon.
The former couple’s separate and streamlined schedules could be a good way to keep the peace and avoid tabloid headlines. Despite filing for divorce eight years ago, the Mr. and Mrs. Smith actors still have significant disagreements due to financial matters and an ongoing legal battle over custody of their children: Maddox, 23, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, 18, and 16-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox.
In 2012, Jolie and Pitt bought Chateau Miraval, a French villa and winery, for around $60 million. They launched Miraval Wines in 2013 and sold 6,000 bottles of rosé in five hours. Recently, the Bullet Train actor filed a legal notice claiming that Jolie “intentionally tried to harm” him by selling her share in the winery after their separation. The news brought their bitter divorce battle to the fore again.
Although the Seven actor has never spoken openly about his and the Eternals actress’ legal battle, he did talk about his state in life mentally and emotionally. He told GQ, “I don’t know how to not sound like a piece of shit about it, but the air is fresh and the grass is green, and I’ve just become that guy a little bit.”
Now that they’re both back in the limelight with their latest project, a source close to both actors has revealed their stance amid the never-ending divorce drama. A source close to Pitt insisted he doesn’t hold anything against the Maleficent actress, while the latter’s rep revealed she’s “extremely sad” about the situation.
Alberto Barbera, artistic director of the Venice Film Festival, confirmed during a press conference that their arrivals were “definitely” spread out, so that there was “no way they could cross each other.”
Wolves will be released in cinemas on September 12, while Jolie’s Maria will hit the big screen on February 6 next year.
