Predator: Badlands did decent business in its opening weekend in India. The 9th installment of the Hollywood franchise grossed Rs. 9.30 crores in India. It started its journey at the box office with Rs. Earned Rs 2.30 crore on its opening day, followed by Rs. Earning of Rs 3.50 crore on both Saturday and Sunday.
Since the franchise is not very popular in India, this is a reasonable total. The film should now show strong trends to ensure a healthy performance till the end of its theatrical run. However, it should be noted that it has already surpassed the final run of Alien Romulus (earning Rs 5.75 crore) in India, a film from a similar region. Directed by Dan Trachtenberg, the science-fiction actioner may not have taken off too well in India, but it has bombed in its home markets with box office business exceeding expectations.
For the record, Predators: Badlands was projected to open with USD 25 million to USD 30 million over the weekend; However, it grossed US$40 million, which is at least a promising weekend.
The film, starring Demetrius Schuster, Kolomatangi and Elle Fanning, received strong word of mouth, boosting its box office collections over the weekend. The sci-fi action film also recorded good collections in overseas markets, led by China, Mexico and the United Kingdom. The film reportedly grossed US$80 million worldwide in its opening weekend, the biggest opening ever for the franchise.
