Sidhu Jonanagadda, who started his career with a small role in Josh in 2009, acted in many films for many years, but struggled to get a proper hit after becoming the main lead in Telugu cinema. With DJ Tilu and Tilu Square, he became a promising star who could trigger the box office, but his latest defeat Jack proved everyone wrong. Take a look at the opposite collection and why this happened.
The first major success came for Sidhu with the film DJ Tilu in 2022, a romantic crime directed by Vimal Krishna by Comedy and Star Entertainment. Despite coming up with any publicity and expectations, the film became a significant turn in his career. Originally Narudi was the title of Brathuku Natana, the film was standing out for Siddu’s character DJ Tilu, which was a fun-love, Telangana Slang and overgrowth local DJ with bizarre dialogues. His body language, humor and energy entertained the audience. S Thman’s background score also promoted the film’s vibe.
Even though the story was simple, Sidhu’s performance made DJ Tilu and its sequel Tillu Square a hit with the audience. Although Tilu Square received mixed reviews from critics as he said that there were wrong tones in comedy, especially in the second half, fans defended the film, saying that it was a fun ride and did not mean seriously. While the sequel was similar to the first part and lack of a new story, Sidhu’s comic timing, swag and screen appearance were the main reasons that the film worked. Despite criticizing characters like Radhika and criticizing the filler scenes, Tilu Square collected a gross of Rs 135 crore worldwide.
On the other hand, Sidhu’s next film Jack did not perform well. The shoot was delayed from April to May 2024 due to the promotion of the schedule of Tilu Square and leading actress Vaishnavi Chaitanya. The film was finally released on 10 April 2025. But Jack flopped badly. The story and execution did not click with the audience. Word-off-mouth was also negative. In five days, it managed to collect only around Rs 8.5–9 crore worldwide. Comparison with Tilu Square caused it further hurt. Although the audience is expecting a comedy from Sidhu, of course he was not expecting him to do so in the role of an RAA agent who goes out for the sake of the country.
Apparently, while Tilu Square continued DJ Tillu magic and survived, Jack remembered the story badly and lost Sheen at the box office in no time.
