Bobby Deol has opened about a film, which he once tried to make – Jab Hum Met – who eventually became a romantic classic with Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, who was in the lead. In an interview recently, Bobby shared that he was heartbroken after being removed from the film, yet played a big role in taking it out of the ground.
Bobby first came to director Imtiaz Ali, while a crowd of Socha Na Tha was in view of print, starring his cousin Abhay Deol. Impressed by Imtiaz’s story, he asked the filmmaker to write a script for him. We found that script eventually when we met.
Bobby immediately said in a conversation with Bollywood, “I really tried hard to make that film; I reached a lot of people.” He even brought the production house in Shri Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, at that time, despite the director being relatively new, he assured him to return Imtiaz.
Bobby also reached Kareena Kapoor for the lead role, but she initially turned down it. Preity Zinta was also considered, although she also refused. Later, Kareena changed her mind and came on the board. However, by that time, Bobby was no longer part of the project. The men’s lead was eventually given to Shahid Kapoor.
The film became a huge hit and is still remembered for Shahid and Kareena’s chemistry and the unique direction of Imtiaz. But for Bobby, the experience was Bitwatch. “This could be difficult in the industry; I was really upset about it at that time,” he said. Nevertheless, he did not express any anger towards Imtiaz Ali, suggesting that the director was likely to take a difficult decision for the film.
