Bobachi – Delhi’s new restaurant offers a culinary journey of pre-partition flavours with a modern twist

Recently opened in the heart of Delhi, Bobachi has emerged as a culinary sanctuary that celebrates vibrant but long forgotten pre-Partition flavours with a modern twist. Run by the esteemed owners of Moti Mahal Deluxe, Princess Garden and China Doll, Bobachi promises an exceptional dining experience where history meets innovation. I decided to check it out and was warmly welcomed by Mr Yuvraj Kohli, owner and head chef of Bobachi. His passion for his work was evident in the menu and the food.

Ambience and environment:

Upon entering Bobachi, I was immediately impressed by its spacious yet intimate ambiance. The minimalist décor, adorned with soothing colours, creates an ambiance that exudes sophistication without being intimidating. Undoubtedly its main attraction is the large, attractive bar, which uplifted the architecture and the spirit of the diners. I was surprised to see the large 2-storey building packed with patrons, proving its growing popularity among Delhi’s discerning diners.

Culinary Exploration:

I started the evening with a cocktail (of course) – Bourbon Fig. The highlight of the drink was the homemade orange balsamic syrup and bourbon-infused figs, which added a refreshing flavour to the drink. It was as refreshing as it was delicious. Next, there was the Whiskey Sour – this was again a fantastic drink. Although I must say that I have had better Whiskey Sours than this, still, this was enough to lift my spirits.

My favorite appetizer with drinks was the Butter Garlic Prawns. And the Bobachi did not disappoint with juicy prawns with a rich flavor of garlic and butter. It was perfect. I also had the Salmon Nigiri Sushi which was served well and tasted even better. Just like authentic sushi should be.

Then my taste buds started craving Indian flavours, so I had aloo aur paneer pakoras – a modern version of potato and paneer pakoras – and it was full of desi flavours and creamy paneer. It was so delicious that I cleared it off the plate in just a few minutes.

There were plenty of other options on the menu – from classic Indian dishes like Amritsari Dal Tadka and Nalli Nihari to international options like Shepherd’s Pie and Meat Sizzlers, but I was already full, so I held back my temptation for next time.

But of course I had some room left for dessert. The tiramisu and cheesecake were mind-blowing – a perfect end to a wonderful evening!
