Netflix India has released the trailer of its first series of the year, Black Warrant. Premiering on January 10, the prison drama offers a gripping portrayal of life inside Tihar Jail, India’s largest and most notorious prison, from the perspective of rookie jailer Sunil Gupta.

The series stars Zahaan Kapoor in the lead role, supported by Rahul Bhatt, Paramveer Singh Cheema, Anurag Thakur, Siddhant Gupta and Rajshri Deshpande, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Rajendra Gupta in special roles.

Black Warrant will take an in-depth look at the challenges faced by Sunil Gupta and his two trusted associates as they deal with the power dynamics of Tihar, strong politics and the harsh realities of notorious prisoners.

Directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, Satyanshu Singh, Ambika Pandit, Arkesh Ajay and Rohin Ravindran Nair, the series is based on Black Warrant: Confessions of a Tihar Jailer, written by Sunil Gupta and Sunetra Chaudhary.

Motwane, who also serves as showrunner, shared that Black Warrant aims to explore a hidden world full of complexity and contradiction. He added, “Sunil’s journey to Tihar Jail provided a unique perspective to capture that complexity. Collaborating with our stellar cast brought incredible nuance to this story, and the partnership with Netflix and Confluence Media allowed us to create such a “Allows us to create stories that are raw, entertaining and deeply human.”

Black Warrant marks Netflix’s entry into the prison drama genre in India. The series promises a raw and unfiltered portrayal of life behind bars, giving viewers a compelling insight into the untold stories of Tihar Jail.

Black Warrant will be available exclusively on Netflix starting January 10th.
