Bhai review: Jayam Ravi’s family drama could have been a TV serial
Brother Movie Review: Director M Rajesh’s Brother starring Jayam Ravi, Priyanka Mohan and Bhumika Chawla is a coming-of-age film. This movie is a two hour long snoozefest.

Release date: October 31, 2024
It is best to enjoy Diwali with your family, and this is the best opportunity to see a family entertainer releasing in theatres. When Jayam Ravi and director M. Rajesh’s Brother was scheduled to release along with Sivakarthikeyan’s Amaran and Kavin’s Bloody Beggar, it had dominance, but only among family audiences. But has Brother managed to impress the audience? Let’s find out!
Karthik (Jayam Ravi) is a man who has no filter. This attitude of his does not allow him to complete his graduation, as he filed a case against his college, alleging their misconduct. Whenever he tries to help people, many issues arise, which upsets his father Kumarasamy (Achyuth Kumar). His sister Anandi (Bhumika Chawla) plans to take him with her to Ooty.
However, Karthik, with his no-filter attitude, creates a big problem in Anandi’s life which breaks up her family. His father disapproves of him and gives him the job of cleaning up his mess. Kartik is now on a mission to reunite his sister Anandi with her in-laws.

If you yawned more than twice while reading the story, it’s exactly how we felt watching director M Rajesh’s Brother. The first half of the film tests your patience. The opening scene of Brother lasts exactly five seconds, in which Jayam Ravi criticizes some villains. There’s a callback to the climax, but it’s of no use because you’re bored out of your wits before you get there.
Director M Rajesh is looking for light fruits and seems satisfied with this. The comedy fails on its face, and the emotional scenes remind you of a poorly made television show. The second part has more substance and melodrama, so much so that you can predict every single sequence. The steps that Karthi takes to reunite his sister with her in-laws are absolutely shameful. It would not be an exaggeration to call it a zero-imagination or dull script.
Acting doesn’t matter in a film like Brother. While Jayam Ravi tries to keep the film on his shoulders, there is only so much he can do to save this colossal mess. While Bhumika Chawla undersells her performance, Rao Ramesh (who plays her egotistical father-in-law) undersells his. The less said about Priyanka Mohan, the better.
Brother is another unnecessary film that offers nothing new. If you are someone who likes television serials, this might be your jam.
2 out of 5 for brother.
