Google is asking its employees to rely more often on AI – not only to make new things, but also to help them do fast and smart work. Top owners are clarifying: New way of working is to do more with less, and AI is a large part of the same. During a company-wide meeting last week, Google CEO Sundar Pichai spoke about the growing expectations on teams. When building the AI tool, Google is also changing how teams should work – with less people, sharp processes and more help than AI.

According to a report by CNBCPichai told the staff, “You ever go through the duration of extraordinary investment, you respond by adding a lot of headcon, right? But in this AI moment, I think we have to complete more by taking advantage of this infection to run high productivity.” This shows what many tech companies are doing today – AI is putting a lot of money in AI, but is also asking teams to handle more work with less employees. CNBC Google’s original company, alphabet, plan to spend $ 85 billion on infrastructure in 2025. It was planning more than $ 75 billion earlier this year.

Pichai’s point was also supported by Brian Saluzo, who is the lead of engineering teams managing Google’s main technical systems. Saluzo said that there is a “real urgency” to bring AI into more everyday work, especially for Google’s software developers. This includes AI tools that help them to code rapidly, and training programs to help workers understand AI better.

Google is also promoting its internal AI tools, such as Cider-AI-based coding assistant-according to Saluzo, already used weekly by half of the people who have access to it. He also referred to a website “AI Savvy Google” created for Google Staff, which shares toolkit, lessons and courses to help AI learning. Google has worked closely with Deepmind to create a training course called “Building with Gemini”, which will be launched soon.

This change in mindset is not only on Google. Other major technical companies like Amazon, Microsoft and Shopify are also expecting workers to use AI more often. The report also mentions that Microsoft’s Julia Lucin recently told the employees that “the use of AI is no longer alternative”, while Shopify CEO Tobby Lutke said teams said that teams need to show that they cannot do anything with AI before they ask for more people.

Meanwhile, the total number of employees of Google has decreased slightly from its highest point in 2023. It now has only more than 187,000 full -time employees. Pichai admitted that the company’s resources are tight, saying, “We are going through a period of much investment, and I think we have to be frugal with our resources.”
