Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who recently made headlines with his film Costao, now made headlines for his strong comments on the intervention of the censor board in Bollywood films. He criticized the cut cuts by the board. The actor also revealed that Indian films often laugh at the global stage.
In a recent interview with Lallantop Cinema, Nawazuddin Siddiqui strongly criticized the frequent intervention of India’s censor boards, such cuts often take away a film of its original vision and completely kill the director’s perspective. She emphasized that this constant tampering makes it difficult for Indian cinema to create creative and stand on the global stage.
The Costao actor further stated that if Indian cinema continues with excessive censorship, it will never affect global platforms. He said that while films in other countries are made with creative freedom and are openly accepted, Indian cinema needs to be developed to that level to take seriously internationally.
Nawazuddin cited films like all, which we imagine as light and court, which is widely appreciated in global festivals, as an example of the ability of Indian cinema when it embraces originality.
He insisted that if the censorship continues to dominate, then Indian films can never reach that world class level and will remain a matter of joke in international programs. The actor said, “Whatever is cinema that expresses it is the hast to see what it is.”
Nawazuddin Siddiqui further shared that when Indian films go to international festivals, producers are often asked about large dance numbers, wondering where the artists go after those sequences. He said that this format, where the hero plays guitar on the streets, is also being questioned.
