Badshah on battling depression: I asked my sister to ‘save me’
Singer-rapper Badshah opened up about his struggle with anxiety and depression. He also revealed that watching Ranveer Singh’s film Lootera gave him a severe anxiety attack.

Singer-rapper Badshah recently shared his struggle with anxiety and depression, including a harrowing experience caused by a film robber (2014). In a recent interview, Badshah revealed how watching the film gave him a severe anxiety attack, which forced him to take a double dose of his medication.
The rapper recalled a particularly tough night when he was looking for robber His anxiety worsened. “I saw Looter and I was depressed and very anxious. I double-dosed all my medications. I woke up and called my doctor and told him, ‘There’s a big problem. I saw Looter and I’m very upset. So, I double-dosed everything.'” He told me, ‘Brother, don’t watch Raanjhana at all’ “Brother, never watch Raanjhanaa,” the 38-year-old rapper said. LallantopHe humorously recalled his doctor’s advice that he should not watch any more films based on heartbreak.
Despite the incident, Badshah insisted that he handles his mental health problems responsibly. He said, “Except for that one time, I have never taken medication without consulting a doctor.”
Lootera, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, is a period drama inspired by O. Henry’s 1907 short story The Last Leaf and was released in 2013. The film stars Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead roles. Anand L Rai’s Raanjhanaa, also released in 2013, was another tale of heartbreak, starring Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush in the lead roles.
Badshah also spoke about his first panic attack, which happened while he was in London. “I was going to sleep and the palpitations started increasing. I thought I was having a heart attack. I went out and started running on the road. I took two sleeping pills and slept that night. In the morning I realised it was a panic attack. That was the first time I had a panic attack,” he said.
My anxiety continued even while returning to India. He said, “I was restless in the plane and I was sweating a lot. My co-passenger got suspicious because I was behaving strangely. Then I started writing a song and calmed down.”
On his return to India, the Emperor suffered from insomnia and asked his sister for help and expressed his distress: “Save me, something is happening to me” (Please save me. There is something wrong with me). This led him to consult a doctor, who diagnosed him with anxiety, depression and a disorder. Badshah began taking medication and took six months to recover.
Reflecting on his journey, Badshah said, “My family supported me. My cousins also supported me a lot. At that time, there was a lot of distance between me and my wife. My cousins were also with me.”
Despite recovering, Badshah continues to take medication for anxiety. He has learnt that it is important to prioritise happiness. “Being happy is the most important thing in life and to be happy it is very important to be selfish. A lot of people are not selfish, so they remain unhappy,” he concluded.
