Huang Ya Qiong won the gold medal and married Liu Yuchen
The 2024 Paris Olympics has everyone glued to their screens and cheering on their favourite athletes. The mixed doubles badminton competition between China’s Huang Ya Qiong-Zheng Siwei and Korea’s Seo Seung Jae-Chae Yoo Jung on August 2 was particularly special. The event was filled with both victories and romance. Huang Ya Qiong not only won the gold medal with Zheng Siwei, but also accepted the proposal of his teammate and men’s doubles player Liu Yuchen. Liu Yuchen took the traditional way by getting down on one knee to propose to his girlfriend. This romantic moment happened after the medal ceremony.

In an interview with Olympics.com, Huang Ya Qiong expressed her happiness about both winning the trophy and getting engaged. She said, “I can’t put my feeling into words because I am so happy, so happy. Getting the gold medal is validation of our journey. I was surprised to see the engagement ring. I have been focusing on training to become an Olympic champion. I never expected this. I didn’t think about how we would celebrate.” According to the report, the gold medalist shed tears of joy after saying “yes” to Liu Yuchen.
Huang Ya Qiong had no idea that Liu planned to make this grand and elaborate gesture of love. Still, it was a pleasant surprise for her. “For me, the proposal is very surprising because I was preparing for the games. Today I am an Olympic champion and I was proposed to, so this is something I did not expect,” she said, as quoted by AP.

We wish Huang Ya Qiong and Liu Yuchen a happy life with more victories and love.
