Pooja Entertainment’s Jackky Bhagnani and his father Vashu Bhagnani have been embroiled in controversies for some time. He made headlines after the crew members of Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan alleged non-payment of dues against the company after it failed to achieve big figures at the box office. Now, filmmaker Ramesh Taurani has spoken on the issue and come out in support of the Bhagnani family.
The makers of Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan are under criticism after the film’s non-cast and crew members alleged that they have not been paid for their work by the company Pooja Entertainment. After the film failed at the box office, the technical crew accused Vashu Bhagnani and his son Jackky Bhagnani of non-payment of salaries. However, in a recent interview with The Indian Express, Tips Industries co-founder Ramesh Taurani expressed his confidence in the production house.
Taurani told the publication that whatever happened between the crew and BMCM producers will be cleared up and they will move on. “I don’t think he’s the kind of producer who would do something like that. He has been here since 1995,” Ramesh said, adding that he had never before heard of Vashu Bhagnani doing anything like this with someone’s money. Furthermore, he believes that “this is a misunderstanding, and they will make sure it is resolved.”
The controversy escalated further when the film’s director Ali Abbas Zafar went against the producers and alleged that Bhagnani owed him Rs 7.30 crore. Soon the matter reached the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE). Additionally, Mission Raniganj director Tinu Desai and Ganpath director Vikas Bahl also complained against the production company for non-payment of dues.
But the producers retaliated and filed a police complaint against Zafar alleging “misappropriation of funds”. Earlier, Netflix had responded to Pooja Entertainment’s claims that they owed them money. The OTT giant said in a statement, “These claims are completely baseless. Actually, Pooja Entertainment owes money to Netflix. We have a strong track record of partnering with the Indian creative community and we are working with the authorities to resolve this dispute.
Bade Miyan Chhote Miyan was released in April 2024. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Manushi Chhillar, Alaya F, Sonakshi Sinha and Ronit Roy.
