‘Bad food, worn seats’: Air India business class passenger questions service after ‘nightmare’ flight

Must read

New Delhi: A business class passenger on a recent Air India flight from New Delhi to Newark recalled a disastrous experience, highlighting problems with cleanliness, service and amenities. Vineet K, a frequent flyer, took to social media to express his disappointment with the Tata Group-owned airline. “After flying Emirates for years, I chose Air India because of their direct flights to my usual destinations,” Mr K said on X (formerly Twitter). However, his experience on flight AI 105 fell far short of expectations.
Mr K’s complaints ranged from dirty and worn-out seats to tasteless food. He described the seats as “worn out” and “not clean”, with some seats not even usable. The flight was also delayed by 25 minutes.

Further problems arose when Mr K attempted to sleep. He reported, “My seat did not convert into a flatbed as advertised.” Although the crew eventually placed him in a functional seat, the discomfort spoiled his travel experience.
To add insult to injury, the food served on the flight was also disappointing. “The food was undercooked, I have never seen anything like this in Air India before,” said Mr K. He added that the fruits looked stale and other passengers had not even eaten them.
The entertainment system was also not working properly, with Mr K’s personal TV screen also malfunctioning.
Upon arrival, Mr. K. found another disappointment: the luggage was damaged. “The final nail in the coffin,” he wrote, describing a broken handle, missing tags and a faulty lock.

Air India initially apologised on Mr K’s post, but later deleted the tweet. Mr K questioned the deletion of the tweet in a later post. The message read, “Dear Sir, We are sorry for the inconvenience and we never want our passengers to face such inconvenience. Please DM us your booking details, seat number and DBR/filer reference number. We will look into it immediately.”

We reached out to Air India for comment but are yet to receive a response.
