Marvel Studios’ highly anticipated film Avengers: Doomsday has hit the headlines earlier than planned after three teaser trailers leaked online days ahead of its intended theatrical rollout. The leaked video, which was specifically meant to accompany James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, has sparked intense discussion on social media and fan forums.
According to Express Tribune, Marvel had planned a four-teaser launch strategy, in which one teaser would be launched each week starting from December 19. The plan was to keep the footage limited to theaters. However, despite strict anti-piracy warnings, three of the four teaser clips were reportedly recorded by audience members and shared online, forcing the studio to immediately remove them.
Avengers: Doomsday teaser leak puts Marvel’s secret marketing plan in jeopardy
The leaked teasers are said to focus on the key legacy characters, which instantly piqued fans’ interest. The first and most talked about clip reportedly reintroduces Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, signaling the return of Captain America. While Marvel has not officially confirmed Evans’ involvement, the teaser reportedly shows Steve riding a motorcycle to a quiet house last seen at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Inside, he sees his old Captain America suit but chooses to take his newborn son, believed to be James Rogers.
The teaser reportedly ends with the message: “Steve Rogers will return in Avengers: Doomsday,” followed by a countdown to the film’s release.
Evans had previously denied being a part of the next Avengers film. Earlier this year he said, “I talk to (Robert Downey Jr. and the Rossos) all the time… It’s sad not to be back with the band, but I’m sure they’re doing something incredible.” After the leak, fans believe that the actor might have toned down his role to protect the surprise.
Here’s what the leaked Avengers: Doomsday teaser reveals
Industry insider Daniel RPK claimed that the first teaser confirms the return of Steve Rogers and positions him as the emotional center of the film. He said, “The first teaser focuses on Steve Rogers and his return is confirmed. The reason for this is to establish him as the main character in Avengers: Doomsday.”
Other leaked clips reportedly introduce Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, setting up the film’s big conflict. Reports also suggest that Marvel may reduce parts of the post-Endgame timeline and re-focus on familiar characters after mixed reactions to the new leads.
Avengers: Doomsday stars Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, Tom Hiddleston, Paul Rudd, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke and Robert Downey Jr. The cast also includes Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, James Marsden and Channing Tatum.
Directed by the Russo Brothers and written by Stephen McFeely, the film will be released on December 18, 2026, followed by Avengers: Secret Wars on December 17, 2027.
