This decrease compared to Avatar 2 is in line with trends seen in other markets around the world. The reason is simple: Avatar 2 was the long-awaited sequel to the box office zeitgeist that was the world’s biggest blockbuster, while this is just another Avatar movie in three years. The pent-up demand of the Avatar film, which gave Avatar 2 a significant boost in initial demand, is not in play this time.
Sales are highest in South India, as was the case with Avatar 2. Tamil Nadu and Telugu states, which were the top two regions for Avatar 2, are leading the sales. North India may lag a bit initially, but should catch up closer to release and then after release. The film is expected to face a big challenge in the northern circuit from ‘Dhurandhar’, which is running at the box office, as it is expected to dominate the showcasing in its third week as well. Interestingly, this is in contrast to 2022, when Avatar 2 overtook Ranveer Singh’s Circus.
