While fans are upset and shocked by Taylor Swift’s cancelled concerts, the Austrian interior minister has detailed the progress made in the case surrounding the failed attack.
Austrian minister Gerhard Karner announced that another teenager was recently arrested in connection with the attack. According to ABC News, a few more teenagers were involved in the terrorist act that was being planned for the now canceled concert of the Look What You Made Me Do singer. The announcement made by the Austrian Interior Minister on Friday further stated that the recently arrested 18-year-old Iraqi citizen was arrested in Austria because he was in contact with the main suspect, a 19-year-old Austrian citizen.
The 19-year-old was arrested on Wednesday morning, while the 18-year-old was arrested on Thursday evening in the Austrian capital.
The report also said that another 17-year-old suspect, an Austrian citizen, was also arrested on Wednesday.
Continuing his words in an unrelated press conference, Gerhard Karner said that, as he put it, “thorough investigations” are being carried out.
The outlet further reports that a 15-year-old Turkish citizen has also been detained and is being questioned by authorities. However, the young man is not being considered a suspect.
Taylor Swift’s three major concerts in Vienna had to be cancelled after the first two suspects were arrested in the failed attack, according to authorities.
“We have had no choice but to cancel three scheduled shows for the safety of everyone,” Barracuda Music’s announcement said, adding that ticket prices would be refunded shortly.
Speaking at a press conference, Director General of Public Security at the Interior Ministry, Franz Ruf, explained that the teenagers were reportedly radicalised online.
The 19-year-old suspect had reportedly sworn allegiance to the Islamic State leader in July, Roof added.
Although the concert was canceled, investigators have said the plot did not work as the teens planned. However, Vienna authorities have found explosive precursor chemicals, which is a major evidence of the plan, the outlet reported, citing sources.
Austrian investigators are also examining surveillance footage to determine whether the suspects visited the concert venue.
