Apple has long had a reputation for premium devices with price tags to match. However, with the recent launch of the M4 Mac mini, the company has introduced a product that breaks old molds, delivering immense power and value at a more accessible price. Last night, the company launched its redesigned Mac mini powered by the M4 and M4 Pro chipsets. The company called it short but fierce, borrowing some words from William Shakespeare. And it really is.

In India, the M4 Mac mini is priced starting at Rs 59,900, and at least on paper, it easily outperforms similarly priced options in the market. But it’s not just raw performance. It’s also the appeal of the Apple ecosystem, the sleek macOS, which is certainly better than Windows these days, that makes the new Mac mini incredibly attractive.

In a way, the Mac mini M4 is so good on paper that it seems like the best value computer for the money at the moment. Why am I saying this? Let me break it down.

Apple M4 Mac Mini: What does it offer?

There are several reasons why I find the Mac Mini so attractive. One is design. Unlike traditional tower computers that you may be tempted to buy, the Mac Mini is comparatively small. It’s like the little box you get your Ginger in at KFC. Like, its width is just 5X5 inches and height is just 2 inches. This means that you will be able to place it anywhere in your home, in a corner or on a shelf.

Two, there is power within it. Despite the size, the Mac Mini comes with a superfast chipset. We’ll learn more about the chipsets’ benchmark numbers and capabilities once they hit the market, but for now it’s safe to say that the M4 and M4 Pro chipsets in the new Apple computers will be faster than any Intel or Intel processor. AMD chips in this price range. In other words, we expect the Mac Mini to not only work well in daily use – let’s say your kids are doing their homework on it – but also handle more demanding tasks like compiling code – it’ll be your It’s for engineering students – or just do a little video editing with ease. It also helps that the Mac mini now comes with 16GB of standard RAM, though the 256GB starting storage is still on the low end. However, for more storage, you can install a hard disk worth Rs 2000 in it.

Three, for regular daily use, I believe macOS is more user-friendly. It has a variety of apps – Pages, Photos and even iMovie, etc. – that you get out of the box. And the macOS interface is now better than Windows, which has turned into a jumble of features thrown together without much thought.

But wait, there are some costs involved

Let’s talk cost. I think a reasonably priced computer, on which you can edit videos or compile code, would cost around Rs 1 lakh. I mean even if you are going to assemble something, look at the eye-watering prices of computer parts in markets like Nehru Place in Delhi or Lamington Road in Mumbai.

In comparison, the Mac Mini is priced at Rs 59,900 for its base variant, which is far more capable than a home-use computer (except for gaming as the AAA game library on the Mac is still very small). But of course, you have to add a good monitor to it. A 24-inch IPS monitor will cost around Rs 15,000. And you have to add a keyboard and mouse, which costs Rs 2000 to Rs 6000, depending on what aesthetics you are going for.

This means it is safe to say that the entire setup may cost you around Rs 80,000. It is not cheap at all. But it is not very expensive either. And when you consider what kind of performance Apple is promising with the M4 chipset, it seems like a good deal. This seems like an ideal deal if you’re hoping to join the Apple ecosystem with a family device like a computer rather than something personal like a MacBook.

The thing to note here is that the price for the regular and new setup is around Rs 80,000. If you already have an existing monitor with an older computer, you can simply upgrade and it will be cheaper. It will also be cheaper if you manage to get a discount – bank discounts already exist. And if you are a student, or parent of a student, you can save around Rs 10,000.

In other words, no matter which way you slice it, the M4 Mac mini looks like a computer that a lot of people will love, and as I noted earlier, for a change, it’s an Apple product that However, its price in India is quite aggressive.
