Brad and George discussed how, as they got older, they chose to work less. At this, George talked to Brad about these changes that happen at age 60. George recalled the time he turned 60, saying, “It makes me laugh. When I turned 60, my wife and I had a nice dinner. We were talking and I said, “Look I’m 60.” Now I’m 63 and I said, well the thing is I can still play basketball with the boys. I can still move around, do a lot of things. Physically, I’m still in great shape. I said, but it doesn’t matter how many granola bars I eat in 20 years, I’m 80 and that’s a different number. It’s a real number where your bones are brittle, and you lose muscle mass. So things change. So, in these next 20 years we really have to focus not just on work, although you have to continue to work. We have to focus on life as well.”

To this Brad responded, “You start to understand this idea of death and it’s something we all have to deal with. You just become more aware of it.”
On his work and how it affects him as he ages, George said, “You have to make peace with the idea that you’re going to die!” He added, “It just is: that’s life and as long as you can make peace with the idea of change, it’s fine. The hard part is, and I know a lot of actors who do this – and you do too – who just can’t let it go and try their best to hold on to it”.

Brad and George’s discussion about aging is thought-provoking about how age is just a number in the broader scheme of things.
