Arratai app is taking on WhatsApp with new poll feature, Sridhar Vembu says even bigger updates are coming in January
Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu has revealed that a major update is planned for Aarattai next month. Their announcement comes after Aratai launched a new poll feature, bringing it one step closer to WhatsApp.

Zoho has launched a new update for its homegrown messaging app Aratai. Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu has hinted that this is just an update and there will be more updates to the store next month. Aratai is Zoho’s alternative to WhatsApp, and the latest update takes the homegrown messaging app one step closer to matching its rival.
On X, Aratai’s official account shared a post on Christmas. The platform announced that users will now be able to share polls in chat, similar to the poll feature on WhatsApp. The caption reads, “A little Christmas gift for your group chat. Polls are now available on Aratai!” Although the announcement did not share specific details about the feature
Zoho has big updates for Aratai in 2026
Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu responded to the post and gave a big hint as to what users can expect in the next month. “Voting is now available in Aratai. We have some more big updates planned for January,” Vembu wrote. Thus, it appears that the Chennai-based firm has some exciting plans for early 2026.

This is not the first time that Sridhar Vembu has hinted towards more updates for Aarattai. This app, which topped the charts on Google Play Store and Apple’s App Store a few months ago, is no longer in the same position as before in terms of downloads.
In a separate reply to a post on X, the Zoho chief stressed that the company was working on some major updates, however, they were waiting for the features to be better before releasing them to the public. He said, “We are working on some very important features. Once we feel we are satisfied with the feature set we will market it more!”

Furthermore, Sridhar Vembu emphasized that he was in it for the long term, rather than looking for short-term publicity for Aarattai. “It’s a marathon. We’re ready for it,” he said.
