When his track was released, many fans criticised Arijit Singh for not addressing the issue sooner, especially when prominent figures from the Bengali film industry were actively participating in the rallies. In response, he explained in his song post, “This song is a cry for justice, a lament for the countless women who suffer in silence, and a demand for change. We try to pay tribute to the courage of the young doctor who died and stand in solidarity with all women who face the horrors of gender-based violence. Our song echoes the voices of doctors across the country who serve tirelessly despite the dangers they face.”
“This is not just a protest song; it is a call to action. It is a reminder that our fight for the safety and dignity of women is far from over. When we sing, we remember the tireless efforts of our doctors, our journalists and our students on the front lines, who deserve not just our respect but our safety too,” she said.
Arijit’s song ‘Aar Kobe?’ means ‘When will this end?’ and reflects the shared despair and hope of those advocating for justice in Kolkata. The rape and murder of a doctor in Kolkata has added fuel to the public outrage that was initially sparked by a severe assault on a student.
For those who don’t know, 31-year-old trainee doctor raped and murdered At RG Kar Hospital earlier this month. As the situation in Bengal remains tense, demands for better security and justice for women are gaining momentum.
