Director Pa Ranjith has raised concerns about the integrity of government and private award organizations at both the Tamil Nadu and Indian levels. His comments come after the Tamil Nadu government announced the State Film Awards and State Television Awards for multiple years on January 29.

The Government of Tamil Nadu announced the State Film Awards for 2016 to 2022 and State Television Awards for 2014 to 2022. The awards honored a number of prominent film and television artists, including actors, male and female, who have contributed to the industry in recent years. It is noteworthy that Pa Ranjit’s Sarpatta Parambarai Won Tamil Nadu State Award for Best Actor for Arya and Best Actor (Special Award) for Pasupathi. However, the boxing drama did not win the Best Film award.

In the Best Actor (Female) category, recipients include Nayanthara, Keerthy Suresh, Jyothika, Aparna Balamurali, Lijomol Jose and Sai Pallavi, marking the recognition of female talent in the industry.

The inclusion of both film and television awards over an extended period has drawn attention to the processes by which these honors are determined. Many questioned why Mammootty and composer Yuvan Shankar Raja were not recognized for their exceptional work in the 2018 film peranbu.

Here are some reactions:

Pa Ranjith’s comments have resonated within the entertainment community, with some concerns also being raised about the functioning of both government and private award-giving bodies. The debate continues as stakeholders consider the values and standards that underpin such beliefs.
