Last week, Apple released the iOS 18 update after the launch of its latest iPhone 16 series. Although the iPhone 16 series is the first series that comes with iOS 18 pre-installed, Apple Intelligence is yet to arrive. Earlier, we reported that the much-awaited Apple Intelligence will debut with iOS 18.1 in October and all the features will take the whole of 2025 to arrive. Out of these AI-powered features, the new Siri is the most prominent highlight. During WWDC 2024, the company revealed new features of Siri, which makes it a true personal assistant. But the timeline was unknown until now. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman sheds light on the release date of the new Siri.
According to Mark Gurman, some new Siri features may ship in iOS 18.3 instead of the previously expected iOS 18.4. The revamped Siri experience could arrive as early as January, which aligns with Apple’s typical iOS.3 release timeline, possibly beating the usual March rollout.
Apart from that, he also talked about the features that come with each iOS 18 update. As a refresher, iOS 18.1 brings us the first wave of Apple intelligence, including a slight Siri refresh (new UI, faster responses), as well as writing tools, photo clean up, and notification summaries. iOS 18.1 is expected to arrive in mid-October. After that, iOS 18.2 is expected to bring Image Playground, Zenmoji, as well as ChatGPT integration. Finally, we should get to see an all-new Siri early next year.
Siri Revamped with Apple Intelligence
The redesigned Siri includes a new design that features a glowing light that wraps around the edges of the screen when activated. This visual update is intended to create a more engaging user experience. Beyond aesthetics, Apple has expanded Siri’s functionality with onscreen awareness, enabling it to perform actions based on the content displayed on the screen.
Apple’s Siri now has improved language understanding capabilities, allowing it to process and respond more naturally to user commands. This improvement ensures that Siri can maintain context across many interactions, even when users stumble to speak their words. Additionally, users can now type to Siri and seamlessly switch between text and voice input, providing more flexible ways to interact with the assistant.
Notably, Apple has partnered with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT technology into Siri, boosting its generative AI capabilities. This integration allows Siri to handle more complex tasks and provide more sophisticated responses. Users will be able to access ChatGPT through updates to Apple’s iPhone and Mac operating systems, adding functionalities such as text and content generation. This partnership is part of Apple’s strategy to incorporate advanced AI technologies and stay competitive in the tech landscape.
