Apple is giving India a huge role in its global supply chain this year. The next month, before the launch of the iPhone 17 series, the company has allegedly started production of all four models in India, including Pro variants that were previously manufactured only in China, Bloomberg reported. This is the first time India will be part of Apple’s initial rollout on such a scale.

Change is not only symbolic. This shows how aggressively apple is trying to reduce its dependence on China, especially for the US and other major markets bound tools. According to the scheme familiar with the scheme, the company is currently producing iPhone 17 in five factories in India. Two of them have recently started operating, the Tata Group facility in Hosur in Tamil Nadu and a large plant of Foxconn near Bangalore Airport.

Tata’s role, in particular, is expanding quickly. Within the next two years, the plants run by the group may be responsible for about half of India’s iPhone output. It is a major leap for a company that entered the iPhone assembly only after receiving the Karnataka unit of Wistron in 2023 and taking a majority stake in the Petron factory near Chennai.

The scale of change of apple in strategy can be seen in numbers. Between April and July this year, India exported $ 7.5 billion iPhone at the factory gate prices. Throughout the last financial year, exports were $ 17 billion.

On the side of the product, the iPhone 17 series is expected to bring self -noticeable changes. Reports suggest that Apple is preparing a slimmer model, which will be deployed as the face of its marketing campaign, while Pro versions will get their most adequate redesign in years. Camera upgrade, better video recording and better zoom capabilities are called part of the package.
However, Apple’s India Roadmap is beyond this year’s launch. The company is working on a new iPhone 17E, it is likely to start as a follow -up of the iPhone 16E early next year. Discussions have begun around the production schemes for iPhone 18, initial preparations are expected to begin in the coming weeks.

Extension in India is a reaction to partially unexpected global trade environment. Apple is navigating tariff pressure in the US, the company has recently warned of a hits of $ 1.1 billion in the current quarter. While iPhones have so far been spared from the broad tariff hike, Apple wants to be better prepared by bringing diversity in its production base.

Meanwhile, China is trying to capture its manufacturing dominance. Officials have discouraged technology transfer in India and Southeast Asia to allegedly slow down change. Foxconn also recalled hundreds of Chinese technicians from its Indian plants earlier this year, forcing Apple to fly in Taiwan and Japan engineers at high costs. Nevertheless, the production deadline remains on the track, people informed about the matter.
