Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that Apple’s new gaming app will replace the old game center and will serve as a launcher for titles installed in iPhone, iPad, MAC and Apple TV. The app will also consolidate achievements, leadersboard, communication and editorial materials. Gurman said that Apple has designed the new app to make it easier for users to search and attach with the game. This Apple Arcade – Apple’s 6.99/Month Gaming Subscription will introduce both the available apps available both through the stores game and the title.

The app is expected to be unveiled next month in WWDC 2025 and will be pre-installed on Apple devices with iOS 18 and next MACOS version later this year.

The report also states that when the new gaming app arrives for iOS, iPados and Macos, the MAC version will allegedly support the game downloaded from outside the app store. This is an important development, given the historically closed ecosystem of Apple. The report also indicated Apple’s MAC on Apple’s intention to create a more competitive platform for gaming – an area where Microsoft has long dominated with Windows PC.

According to this new strategy, Apple recently acquired RAC7 Games, one of the initial hits on Indie Studio, behind Sneaky Sasquatch, Apple Arcade. The acquisition, reported by the first digital trends, reflects Apple’s increasing investment in the original gaming material.

Interestingly, last year 9TO5MAC reported that Apple was working on a new game-centric app, which was designed to some extent after the Microsoft’s Xbox app for the iPhone. The report suggested that the app would include the “Play Now” tab with the curated game recommendations, a friend list, achievements, challenges, and support for in-game communication through facetime or IMESSAGE.

The report also suggests that as soon as the new gaming app arrives, Apple can integrate it with the current game center profile of users instead of completely changing the game center. The app can also support mini-game through the app clip.
