Apple may soon let you stream Apple TV shows from an iPhone to your car screen, here’s how
Apple is preparing to launch a new feature called AirPlay Video in Car, which will allow iPhone users to stream shows from Apple TV directly to their CarPlay-enabled screen.

iPhone users may soon be able to stream and watch videos from Apple TV on CarPlay-supported screens. The functionality, which has been in development for some time, has been spotted in the documentation for Apple’s latest iOS 26.4 beta update, giving us a first look at how it might work and even some of its limitations.
The feature, called “AirPlay Video in the Car,” was first confirmed by Apple at WWDC 2025. But this feature has not been officially made available to the users yet. However, the first signs of availability in the iOS 26.4 beta have emerged, suggesting that Apple may soon offer it to the public.
According to the document (first seen by Vanzelbreck), “AirPlay Video in Car enables people to watch their favorite videos from an iPhone on their CarPlay display when they’re not driving.”
Here, the integration of Apple TV is particularly noteworthy. CarPlay now includes a dedicated space, somewhat like an app, that will allow users to stream shows and movies over AirPlay directly to their car display. This appears to be a step up from simple mirroring. Users can resume what they were watching on their phone and start new episodes directly from the car’s display.
Due to safety and regulatory concerns, AirPlay video in the car will only be available when the car is parked, not while one is driving. Also, not all cars will get this feature automatically. Car manufacturers must update their infotainment systems to support CarPlay and AirPlay video integration.
The developer document indicates that Apple is laying the groundwork for comprehensive in-car entertainment via CarPlay, and it’s likely to arrive with iOS 26.4.
According to MacRumors, this beta version of iOS 26.4 will also officially allow voice-based conversation apps in Apple CarPlay. However, this support is expected to come with limited controls, as Apple may not allow third-party AI apps to be activated via a wake word like “Hey Siri” in CarPlay. Users may have to manually open the app before interacting with the chatbot.
