Who are getting money?

The agreement applies to owners of Apple Watch Series 1, Series 2 and Series 3 models, who reported battery inflammatory problems to Apple. In some cases, users did not even claim to, for such issues, there was already any automatically involved on Apple’s service records. Other users had to submit the claim through the official settlement website till 10 April 2025.

In particular, while the minimum payment was determined on the $ 20 per affected device, the final amount depends on the total number of approved claims. Some recipients have reported to be slightly higher around $ 25. However, the amount will be sent only to the Apple Watch users in the United States and not to Indian customers.

Why is Apple paying it?

The payment comes as part of the $ 20 million class-action settlement which Apple agreed earlier this year. Originally filed in 2021 in the US district court for the northern district of California, in 2021, claimed that some old Apple Watch models were designed without having enough interior space to fit normal battery expansion over time.

According to the plaintiff, the inflamed battery can push against performance, making it completely lifted or separated from the cover. In some cases, users stated that this caused operational problems, and in more severe events, allegedly faster edges from different screens allegedly caused cuts or injuries.

The trial accused Apple of finding out about this possible defect, but continued to sell the equipment without issuing adequate warnings or remembering them. The plaintiff demanded damage not only for the cost of repair and replacement but also for injuries and other damage.

Meanwhile, Apple has consistently denied any wrongdoing and has not accepted that the affected Apple Watch is a defect in the model. The company says that equipment were safe to use. However, to avoid prolonged court fighting time and expenses, Apple agreed to the settlement fund of $ 20 million earlier this year. Funds are being used to pay the eligible claimants, cover legal fees and handle the administrative costs of disposal.
