Apple iPhone 16 launch event highlights: iPhone 16 series, Watch Series 10, AirPods 4 launched
It’s that time of year again. Apple is hosting its annual iPhone launch event. The event, dubbed “It’s Glowtime,” will mark the debut of Apple intelligence on iPhones. However, the launch will be hardware-heavy with the announcement of the new iPhone 16 series, the new Apple Watch Series 10, and the AirPods 4. We also expect upgrades to the HomePod and AirPods Max.
The event will begin at 10:30 PM IST and will be held at Apple’s headquarters in Apple Park in San Francisco, California.
At tonight’s launch event, Apple will continue its approach of offering four models in the iPhone lineup: iPhone 16, 16 Plus, 16 Pro, and 16 Pro Max. All models will feature the new A18 Pro chipset for improved performance. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are expected to have a new design, with a vertical camera setup like the iPhone X, with a 48-megapixel primary sensor and 2x optical zoom. The iPhone 16 Plus has a larger display, making it ideal for those who enjoy streaming and gaming.
The iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max will see the most significant upgrades, especially in the camera department. The ultra-wide lens will be upgraded to 48 megapixels, and improvements in battery life are expected to increase usage time.
The Apple Watch Series 10 is rumoured to have a slimmer design with thinner bezels, and the screen size could grow from 41mm to 45mm and 45mm to 49mm. Advanced health features are expected, including possible blood pressure monitoring and sleep apnea detection.
Apple’s AirPods 4 will reportedly replace the AirPods 2 and 3, offering two models. The budget-friendly version will lack active noise cancellation, while the mid-range version will include the feature. Both models are expected to adopt USB-C charging, with the lower-priced model offering only wired charging, and the higher-end version supporting wireless charging.

The price of the iPhone 16 series in India has been revealed on the company’s official website.
The price of the iPhone 16 starts at Rs 79,900, while the price of the iPhone 17 Plus starts at Rs 89,900. The price of the iPhone 16 Pro starts at Rs 1,19,900 and the Pro Max starts at Rs 1,44,900.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 16 series will begin in India on September 13 at 5:30 PM IST. The first sale will take place on September 20.
Price of iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max
The iPhone 16 Pro starts at $999 and the iPhone 16 Pro Max starts at $1199. The 16 Pro comes in a 128GB base model, while the 16 Pro Max offers 256GB of storage in its base model.

Big upgrade to video capabilities on iPhone 16 Pro models
The new iPhone 16 Pro models support 4K120 video recording, allowing frame-by-frame colour grading. Users can capture 4K120 footage in ProRes directly to an external storage device, and HDR recording with camera control is available. The device features four studio-quality microphones with reduced background noise, and spatial audio capture enhances the experience by integrating with your own theatre setup. Additionally, the Audio Mix feature enables users to isolate and adjust individual voices in the recording.
iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max cameras
The main camera on the iPhone 16 Pro models is the 48MP Fusion Camera, which features a second-gen quad-pixel sensor that eliminates shutter lag in ProRaw and HEIF photos. The new 48MP ultrawide camera also includes a quad-pixel autofocus sensor, which enhances its performance. Additionally, the 5x telephoto camera now uses a tetraprism design, which is available on the regular Pro models as well as the Pro Max.
The camera control interface allows users to switch between lenses seamlessly. However, a software update planned for later this year will introduce a two-step shutter feature that enables users to lock exposure and focus. It is interesting that this feature, which was supposed to be a key aspect of camera control, is not available at launch and will require a software update.

The A18 Pro delivers twice the ray tracing performance of the A17 Pro thanks to its improved processing power. This includes two performance cores and four efficiency cores, making it 15 percent faster overall than the previous generation.
Exclusive to the Pro models, the A18 Pro supports advanced media capabilities such as ProRes video recording and faster USB 3 transfer speeds. The camera system benefits from a combination of advanced hardware, software, and intelligence, further enhancing the capabilities of the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max.

The iPhone 16 Pro has upgraded displays, measuring 6.3-inches for the Pro and 6.9-inches for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Apple says, “These are our best iPhone displays ever.”

The camera control is designed to be flush with the surface and is covered in sapphire glass. To activate the camera, a simple click will launch it, and clicking again will take a photo. Holding down the control will start video recording. This interface features a tactile click with haptic feedback from the Taptic Engine, which differentiates between a full press and a light touch.
A light press gives a clear preview or brings up an overlay for adjusting settings like zoom and depth, which can be fine-tuned with a double tap. The main camera is a 48MP with a 26mm focal length. It combines a high-resolution 48MP image with a 12MP pixel-binned photo to produce a 24MP image with better light capture. Additionally, there is a 12MP telephoto lens with a f/1.6 aperture for 2x optical zoom.

Importantly, user data is not stored or shared with Apple; it is only used to process your specific requests, and independent audits of the system are possible. The data centers supporting this service run entirely on renewable energy.
One exciting feature is Zenmoji, which allows users to create new emojis by simply typing the description. However, it is worth noting that these features are not expected to be introduced with the launch of the iPhone 16.
iPhone 16 runs on the new A18 chip
The new A18 chip, introduced with the iPhone 16, brings significant performance improvements across the board. This chip features a neural engine that is twice as fast, and an upgraded memory subsystem with 17 percent more bandwidth. Notably, the A18 chip is included in both the standard iPhone 16 and Pro models, which is a significant step up.
Built on a second-generation 3nm process, the A18 chip includes a six-core CPU with two high-performance cores and four efficiency cores, making it 30 percent faster than the CPU in the iPhone 15. It is also more energy-efficient, delivering similar performance to the A16 Bionic while using 30 percent less power. Additionally, the chip has a five-core “desktop-class” GPU, which is 40 percent faster than the GPU in the iPhone 15 and operates with 35 percent less power than the A16.
