Apple announces free repair program for iPhone 14 Plus rear camera problem: Here’s how it works

Apple has identified a small issue affecting a limited number of iPhone 14 Plus devices, specifically their rear camera functionality. A small batch of iPhone 14 Plus models manufactured between April 10, 2023, and April 28, 2024, may not show any preview in the rear camera, leaving users unable to see what they are capturing. In response, Apple has announced a free repair program to address the problem, and assured affected customers that they can get it fixed at no charge.

If your iPhone 14 Plus shows symptoms of this issue, Apple has set up a quick and easy way for you to check eligibility. By entering your device’s serial number on Apple’s website, you can find out if your phone is eligible for the free repair program. Only certain units of the iPhone 14 Plus are covered, so it’s important to confirm eligibility before visiting an Apple Service Center. Any other iPhone models, including the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, or other older models, are not part of this program.

Apple offers a few methods to repair your iPhone 14 Plus. First, you can locate an Apple Authorized Service Provider, which can be done on Apple’s website. Alternatively, you can make an appointment at any Apple Retail Store for a hands-on repair experience. Before you take your iPhone for service, make sure to back it up using iCloud or your computer to protect your data. Apple also advises that if your iPhone 14 Plus has other issues, like broken glass on the back, it may need to be fixed before the camera repair is complete. In such cases, additional repair costs may apply.

This repair program is global but may be limited to the country or region where the iPhone 14 Plus was originally purchased. It is important to note that although this service is free, it does not extend the standard warranty coverage of the device. Therefore, for users expecting additional protection beyond the standard warranty period, the program will not add additional coverage.

Apple is also offering a refund option if you have already paid out of pocket to fix this specific camera issue on your iPhone 14 Plus. Affected users can contact Apple Support to discuss reimbursement of prior repair costs related to this issue.

The repair program covers eligible iPhone 14 Plus devices for up to three years from the original retail sale date. Apple’s proactive approach here is a relief for iPhone 14 Plus users, ensuring that they get the camera experience they expect from their device.
